30x40x50 SUBURBS OF THE WORLD – MINOR CITIES

Palazzo Arese Borromeo – Cesano Maderno

Exhibition curated by: Ferdinando Zanzottera
Scientific committee of the exhibition:: Alfio Conti, Luca Sgambi, Ferdinando Zanzottera

The exhibition “30 x 40 x 50 SUBURBS OF THE WORLD – MINOR CITIES. Cesano Maderno: (ambiente costruito e vita sociale ) built environment and social life “is the second exhibition stage of the larger project” 30 x 40 x 50 SUBURBS OF THE WORLD “, which for the first time has arrived in Italy, endowing itself with a large documentary volume.
Conceived as an occasion for reflection on the theme of the contemporary city and the urban periphery, the exhibition was created by the Institute for the History of Art of Lombardy (ISAL) gathering the enthusiasm of the Friends of the Palace and Arese Borromeo Park of Cesano Maderno, who collaborated to create a unique event dedicated expressly to photography. This exhibition, in fact, was hosted within the twenty-fifth edition of the event “The World in a click”, which was also attended by Poste Italiane with a special counter dedicated to the special stamp cancellation created for the occasion.
Widely appreciated by the public, the exhibition presented numerous unpublished shots of the SNIA Village, a suburb of the town of Cesano Maderno built starting from the twentieth century, once considered a model district and small “ideal city” in which to experiment with innovative residential typologies – housing for workers.
A moment of debate on domestic living and the concept of suburbs, not only as a place of decay but also as a territorial resource, the exhibition has also attracted interest from numerous local newspapers and the Pulcino Elefante publishing house, which decided in the first months of 2019 to dedicate a limited-edition artist’s book to the exhibition.
